Adjusted Categorization Matrix Display
If you are interested in enabling any of these features for your account, please send an email to support@collegekickstart.com. If you want to enable Ultra Selective Override, please also mention what admit rate you would like to set for the threshold. You can update this threshold or disable these features at any time by emailing support@collegekickstart.com.
You will see any updated features in effect the next time you run plans for your students. Please note that these features will affect all students' plans and are not configurable by individual student.
Ultra Selective Override
The Ultra Selective Override feature allows you to set an admit rate threshold so that all schools with an overall admit rate at or below that threshold will automatically be categorized as Unlikelies, regardless of academic performance.
How Ultra Selective schools are visible in College Kickstart
Within College Kickstart, ultra-selective schools will be notated with a “U” superscript (“MITU”) and accompanied by a blue tooltip if you hover your cursor over the superscript:
The Details Tab will also provide additional commentary:
If you have a 10+ student subscription, the notation will also be visible in Personalized Plan PDFs:
An adjustment may be required to take advantage of early opportunities
Don’t forget that all unlikely schools automatically default to Regular Decision in College Kickstart, so if you have a strong student applying to an ultra-selective institution, you’ll need to make a counselor adjustment to switch the school from an unlikely to a reach.
Note: If you still want students to apply early for Unlikely schools, consider our new "No Regrets" Override feature below |
"No Regrets" Override
The "No Regrets" Override feature that we're testing for 2025 will no longer restrict Unlikely schools to regular decision. When enabled, College Kickstart will allow early decision and early action to be considered with an appropriate caveat.
Adjusted Categorization Matrix Display
The adjusted categorization matrix display we're testing for 2025 will shift an adjusted school from its original position in the matrix to its adjusted one.
Bear in mind that this is an approximation based on the type of adjustment made. For example, if an unlikely school has been adjusted to a target, we'll shift it down diagonally to the right. If an unlikely is adjusted to a reach, we'll shift it right one cell if the reason is academic and down one cell if the reason is related to selectivity.
